Writing research proposals is a special genre. To successfully acquire research funding - be it for a doctoral thesis or a postdoc - there are a few things to consider. In this workshop, we want to introduce doctoral students and early career postdocs to the basics and strategies of research proposals to acquire third-party funding for their research. The workshop will focus on the German Research Foundation (DFG) funding schemes.
First, the workshop will give an overview of the DFG programmes and go into the “Dos and Don'ts” of grant writing. We will then examine two concrete examples of DFG research applications and their reviews. Based on these examples and interactive discussions, you will learn how to develop a research idea into a project proposal and match it with the objectives of a specific DFG funding programme. Further, you will learn how to structure proposals to comply with the funding conditions of the respective funding programme and consider the reading behaviour of reviewers.
