The Center for Religious Studies (CERES) at Ruhr-Universität Bochum provides excellent graduates from all over the world a PhD program with the opportunity to concentrate their studies and research interest within the broad field of religious studies.
Religious studies is the academic study of religions that seeks to understand religion as a social and cultural human phenomenon. It is conducted in value free terms while at the same time appreciating believers' as well as non-believers' world views and value systems as vital parts of their life.
Religious studies at CERES is carried out by various academics from different disciplines such as sociology of religion, history of religion, philologies, Japanese studies, Jewish studies, Central Asian studies, Buddhist studies and others.
The CERES PhD program will aid students in their PhD projects through individual counseling and supervision by renowned scholars. Furthermore the program offers every PhD student the opportunity to cooperate with the CERES current research projects as for example in regular colloquia or workshops.
