KHK Visiting Research Fellow 2015, Associate Professor for Indian Art History, Faculty for Cultural Sciences, Department for Asian Studies, Institute for Indology and Tibetology, Ludwigs-Maximilian-Universität München, Munich, Germany

Monika Zin started her studies at the Jagiellon University in Cracow, Poland, with Theater Studies and Polish Language and Literature (M.A. in 1981), followed by her doctoral studies in Indology and Indian Art and her post-doctoral studies (habilitation) in Indology at the LMU in Munich (Ph.D. 1991, Dr. habil. in 2000). In 2000, she joined in the Department for Indology at the LMU Munich as an Associate Professor. Next to this, she held a position as a Lecturer for Buddhist Arts and Literature in the Department for Indology and Central Asian Science at the University of Leipzig from 2005 to 2008 and was a Visiting Professor in the Department of Art History at the FU Berlin from 2010 to 2014.

Monika Zin is an expert for Indian and Central Asian Art History as well as Indian drama. Her latest publications (monographs) are: Mitleid und Wunderkraft. Schwierige Bekehrungen und ihre Ikonographie im indischen Buddhismus [Pity and Miracles. Difficult Conversions and their iconography in Indian Buddhism], Wiesbaden: Harrassowitz, 2006 and Samsaracakra, Das Rad der Wiedergeburten in der indischen Überlieferung [Sa_s_racakra, the Wheel of Rebirth in Indian Tradition] (together with Dieter Schlingloff) Düsseldorf: Haus der Japanischen Kultur (EKŌ, 2007). Another monograph on Indian Art ist o be published soon with the Taschen press.

As a KHK Visiting Research Fellow she is going to work on a project entitled Analysis of the visual language of the Buddhist reliefs from Andhra, their Roman elements and distinctness from Gandhara
