KHK Visiting Research Fellow 2017

Ivan Sablin gained his first M.A. in International Relations and his second M.A. in Global History. With the dissertation “Buryat-Mongol, Buddhist, and Socialist: Transcultural Spaces and Boundary Construction in Post-Imperial Asia, 1917–1923”, he was awarded Ph.D. in 2014.

The research interests of Ivan Sablin cover transcultural interactions in Siberia, the relations between Russia and East Asia, and the history of Buddhism in Soviet and post-Soviet contexts. He is especially interested in ongoing discussions of post-Soviet/post-colonial legacies, and currently works on a co-authored monograph on Buddhism in the Soviet Union.
