Visit of an almost forgotten missionary collection

Researchers affiliated to the Research Focus “Missionary Collections” at CERES, recently followed an invitation from the Protestant Missionary Society in Hermannsburg to visit the local mission collection.

They had the opportunity to explore the objects, which have only been in storage for more than two decades, and their documentation in detail.

In addition to exchanging ideas and expanding the network, Knut Stünkel, Belinda Peters, Patrick Krüger and Martin Radermacher (from left to right), were able to identify potential exhibits for the planned exhibition on missionary collections entitled "Sending and Collecting - Missionizing and Exhibiting".

The exhibition will open at the end of 2025 in cooperation with the Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum in Cologne. This collaboration will not only make the world of missionary collections accessible, but will also make a significant contribution to the research and presentation of this cultural heritage.
