The Center for Religious Studies (CERES) is looking for a research associate (m,f,x), for the period until 31.12.2025 with 29,8725 hours per week, TV-L E13.
CERES is a Central Research Unit of the Ruhr-Universität. It currently brings together over 50 researchers, which makes it one of the largest centers for the comparative study of religion in Europe. The center hosts a double degree BA program as well as single and a double degree MA-programs for Religious Studies. The programs combine a focus on the history of religions with theoretical and empirical approaches in the study of religions and are in constant dialogue with center’s research projects.
The professorship for the History of Western Asian Religions is offering a position (TV-L E 13, 75%) for the substitution of the professorship in teaching in the field of history of Iranian religions (first millennium BC and AD) from 1 December 2024 to 31 December 2025.
The tasks of the Research Associate include:
- Teaching in the field of history of West Asian religions (3 hours per week)
- Involvement in the development of courses offered by the professorship
- Assistance with the research activities of the professorship
- Assistance with the administrative activities of the professorship
The requirements are:
- A master-degree in Iranian Studies, study of religion, or a comparable field
- Good knowledge of Iranian religions, esp. Zoroastrianism
- Good knowledge of Iranian philology
- Good knowledge of Middle Persian and/or Avestan
- Interest in the concepts of time and space in the history of religions
- Good command of English
- Ability to work in a team
In addition, the following qualifications are desirable:
- Ability to read German
- Good knowledge of Zoroastrian literature
