Knut Martin Stünkel sheds light on the role of key concepts in the study of religious contact
In December 2024, the book “Key Concepts in the Studies of Religions in Contact” by Knut Martin Stünkel was published by Brill. The volume is part of the series “Dynamics in the History of Religions”, which is published by CERES, and examines the so-called key concepts and their application in the context of religious contact.
The history of religion can only be researched by taking religious contact into account. In order to analyze this, concepts are necessary. Both scholars and actors within these contact situations must describe themselves and others through concepts.
Taking a contact-based approach to religious studies, Knut Martin Stünkel deals in this volume with a selection of key concepts (attraction, dynamics and stability, tradition, transcendence/immanence, senses, mystery, space) that serve to understand religious contact as a dynamizing element in the history of religion.
