ON PAPER

The University of Bremen hands Prof. Dr. Anna Neumaier her habilitation certificate

After the habilitation procedure was officially completed on April 24, 2024, Anna Neumaier was recently presented with the decisive document. With the so-called Venia Legendi, she has been awarded the right to independently represent the field of religious studies at a university.

As part of the procedure, Neumaier had submitted a cumulative habilitation thesis based partly on her publication "Religiöse Pluralitäten - Umbrüche in der Wahrnehmung religiöser Vielfalt in Deutschland" published by Transcript Verlag and partly on other papers published since then. "Religiöse Pluralitäten" examines the effects of increasing religious plurality on the social and individual perception of religion and the processing of religious plurality. It questions established theories such as the loss of plausibility of religion and the tendency towards fundamentalization by showing that religious identity is usually shaped by complex historical developments and a multi-layered network of biographical meanings.

The CERES team congratulates Prof. Dr. Anna Neumaier on this important academic recognition and looks forward to her future contributions to research at CERES.
