Abstract Carmen Meinert:

As certain trends of Buddhism were transmitted from the Central Asian Oasis of Dunhuang to Tibet in the 8th/9th centuries and to Song China at the turn of the first millennium different political interventions are discernible in both cultural contexts which favoured or inhibited the transmission of the teachings. On the basis of a specific case study, the analysis of both transfer processes allow to detect cultural factors and historical circumstances that shaped the formation of a Buddhist (main)stream in cultural comparison.
