Borders of Orthodoxy and the Charm of False Learning in Korean Confucianism

The aim of the project is to analyze concepts of orthodoxy and heterodoxy in 16th century Korean Confucianism. Crucial questions are how the concepts of orthodoxy and opposite false learning (yiduan/idan) were defined, how they were used and how this dichotomy influenced Korean Confucian discourse. In terms of intra- and inter-religious contact it focuses on the question whether there have existed a different approach to outer and inner enemies of the supposed Confucian orthodoxy.
