Karl Galinsky (Ph. D. Princeton, 1966) joined the University of Texas at Austin as an Assistant Professor of Classics in 1966, became Associate Professor in 1968 and was promoted to Full Professor of Classics in 1972. He is he holder of the Cailloux Professorship and has been serving as Distinguished Teaching Professor since 1999. His appointments as Visiting Professor or Fellow include the University of Otago (New Zealand) in 1992, the National University of La Plata (Argentina) in 1997, and the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz in 1998.
Karl Galinsky received numerous, prestigious international fellowships and grants and was even awarded with the distinguished Max Planck Research Prize for International Cooperation in 2009 for his project "Memoria Romana: Memory in Roman Civilization", which is based at the Ruhr-University Bochum. In December 2011 Karl Garlinsky was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy Degree by the Faculty of Philology at the Ruhr-University Bochum.
Karl Galinsky has specialized on Roman civilization, especially of the Augustan age as well as Roman literature, religion and art. His most recent book, an introduction to the life of the emperor Augustus, was published in July of 2012. From 2008-10, he directed a project with the SBL on the Roman imperial cult; the proceedings were published in 2011. During his fellowship with us he will organize two conferences on religious pluralism, which will be taking place in September 2012 at the University of Texas and in 2014 at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum.
