VISITING

Short visit to CERES - Angelica Gaspari meets with MPCD team for an exchange

Angelica Gaspari is currently a guest at CERES. Gaspari, who holds a Master's degree in archaeology, is doing her doctorate in philology at La Sapienza University in Rome. According to Gaspari, her interest in the philology of Middle Persian was aroused by her study of the archaeology of pre-Islamic Iran. The subject of her doctoral project is the transcription and translation of the Dādestān ī Dēnīg, a Middle Persian text written by the Zoroastrian priest Manūščihr in the 9th century. The goal is to produce a critical edition of the text, which has not previously been available in this form. As Gaspari emphasizes, the Dādestān ī Dēnīg is a complicated and multi-layered text, and identifying the author's sources and references to his contemporary milieu, for example, is a major challenge.

Angelica Gaspari has followed the invitation to present her PhD project as part of the MPCD Guest Lectures on May 15. She will also take the opportunity to exchange ideas with the MPCD project staff in general during a two-week stay. On the one hand, she will have the opportunity to talk to Prof. Dr. Kianoosh Rezania and Dr. Thomas Jügel from CERES about specific linguistic aspects and challenges of Dādestān ī Dēnīg. On the other hand, as Gaspari notes, they could discuss technical aspects of working on and with the MPDC platform. We wish Angelica Gaspari a good and productive time at CERES.
