New research material for the research focus on mission collections

Due to the closure of its missionary house in Munich, the missionary order of the White Fathers offered CERES to take over a collection of artifacts from sub-Saharan Africa at short notice. The collection is a valuable addition to the collection given to CERES from the White Fathers' missionary house in Cologne, which has been dissolved in 2021. The collection from Munich has been in CERES since December 10, 2023.

The transfer of the collection is a lucky chance for the research focus on mission collections (https://ceres.rub.de/de/forschung/projekte/missionssammlungen/), especially because numerous mission collections are no longer accessible nowadays or have even been dissolved by the orders. Amongst others the added collection will be subject of ongoing research about the material dimension of religious and cultural contact between missionaries and indigenous people.
