Children's book reading at Museum Night in Herne: Creation myths from around the world

On March 28, 2025, CERES participated in the “Night of Stars in Herne” museum night with a reading for children and families as part of the program of events at the LWL Museum of Archaeology and Culture. The reading was from the intercultural children's book How the Stars Came to the Sky, which presents eleven creation stories from different religious and cultural traditions in a way that is accessible to young audiences.

Michelle Dieren, Maren Freudenberg, and Gerrit Lange presented selected myths from the book in two well-attended readings, including stories from Japanese, Zoroastrian, and Norse traditions. The younger listeners in particular were repeatedly filled with wonder and curiosity, and many adults also followed the stories with great interest.

The reading was complemented by an open accompanying program for children: at a craft table, they could color matching bookmarks and take them home with them. Postcards with graphics from the book were also available free of charge. Some visitors spontaneously took a copy of the book home with them.

The rest of the Museum Night program offered a wide mix of light art, music, guided tours, and hands-on activities. The event attracted numerous visitors and transformed the museum into a lively evening venue. We would like to express our sincere thanks to the LWL Museum Herne for the invitation to participate and for the very successful organization. It was an enriching evening for everyone involved, with lots of positive feedback.

Another reading from the children's book is planned for the fall. It is expected to take place at Situation Kunst in Bochum-Weitmar. The exact date and further information will be announced at a later date.
