Elaheh Fathian researches the grammaticalization of Persian verbs of motion

CERES is pleased to welcome the Iranian guest researcher Elaheh Fathian. Elaheh Fathian is a PhD candidate in linguistics at Bu-Ali Sina University in Hamedan, Iran. From a systematic point of view, she is mainly dealing with diachronic studies and grammaticalization. For her dissertation, she is analyzing the development of Persian verbs of motion using data from three different language levels: Old Persian, Middle Persian and Modern Persian (early and contemporary).

Fathian became aware of the MPCD project (Zoroastrian Middle Persian: Digital Corpus and Dictionary) when she was researching experts in the field of grammaticalization in the context of diachronic studies of Persian. This led to the idea of an exchange with our colleagues and subsequently to her stay at CERES.

At CERES, Fathian is particularly dedicated to collecting and analyzing data from Middle Persian, with technical support from the MPCD project. Elaheh Fathian's research contributes to gaining a deeper understanding of linguistic evolution in Persian and to tracking linguistic phenomena over several centuries. We wish her every success and a productive stay at CERES!
