CERES and CRC 1475 withdraw from X

The Center for Religious Studies (CERES) and the CRC 1475 “Metaphors of Religion” have decided to end their activities on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). This step aligns with the decision of numerous other universities and research institutions that have discontinued their presence on X for similar reasons.

The current orientation of the platform is no longer compatible with our core values. In particular, we believe that academic integrity, openness to the world, transparency, and democratic discourse are at risk. Changes on X, such as the increasing disinformation, the algorithmic amplification of right-wing populist content, and fake accounts, contribute to an atmosphere that makes fact-based communication on this platform almost impossible.
