Yoga and Body Metaphors in Tibetan Buddhism

Das Teilprojekt A03 untersucht die Rolle von Metaphern im tibetischen tantrischen Buddhismus mit besonderem Fokus auf Yoga, Visualisierungen und Ritualpraxis. Während Metaphern häufig als sprachliche Ausdrucksformen verstanden werden, erforscht das Projekt, wie sie auch durch Bilder, Körpertechniken, Gesten und Ritualobjekte wirken. In diesem Zusammenhang sind Metaphern nicht nur beschreibend, sondern performativ: Sie prägen Wahrnehmung, Erfahrung und Prozesse spiritueller Transformation.

Im Mittelpunkt stehen Vorstellungen des „subtilen Körpers“ im tibetischen Buddhismus, der als System von Kanälen, Energien und Lichtpunkten durch Meditation und Ritual erfahrbar gemacht wird. Texte, Visualisierungen und körperliche Praktiken greifen dabei ineinander und schaffen komplexe metaphorische Strukturen, die bestimmte Weisen des Erlebens von Geist, Körper und Wirklichkeit ermöglichen. Bilder von Licht, Bewegung, Fluss und Transformation spielen dabei eine zentrale Rolle.

Aufbauend auf der ersten Förderphase, in der Metaphern des Geistes, des Weges und des Lichts in tibetischen buddhistischen Anleitungstexten untersucht und Methoden zur Analyse multimodaler Metaphern entwickelt wurden, erweitert A03 nun den Blick auf visuelle und rituelle Ausdrucksformen. Durch die Verbindung von Conceptual Metaphor Theory und Conceptual Blending Theory untersucht das Projekt, wie metaphorische Bedeutung über verschiedene Medien und Sinnesbereiche hinweg entsteht. Damit trägt A03 zu einem vertieften Verständnis der Rolle von Metaphern bei der Gestaltung religiöser Erfahrung und transformativer Praktiken im tibetischen Buddhismus bei.
