A Study of Epigraphic and Iconographic Artifacts from Samarkand
CERES-Palais, Raum "Ruhrpott" (4.13)
Recent archaeological research in Samarkand has uncovered numerous epigraphical and pictorial materials, enhancing our understanding of the culture and history of pre-Islamic Central Asia, where local written sources remain scarce. This talk will primarily focus on artifacts such as sealings and wooden boards from Kafir-kala (Rēwdāt), along with related new materials from other sites excavated in collaboration with the Samarkand Archaeological Institute and several Japanese academic organizations. The talk aims to provide an update on the research findings and introduce some recent discoveries for discussion.
