Process Anthropology

A New Methodology for the Study of “Religion”

Inspired by the religious dynamics model formulated by the KHK and drawing on work in new materialism, actor-network-theory, and science studies, this methodological project elaborates a process anthropology, which works to overturn false dualisms between matter (as dead or inert) and mind (as the locus of life and agency) in order to formulate a new method for the study of “religion” as a de-essentialised assemblage. Japanese “Buddhism” serves as a case study.
