Grafting Syriac Christianity into the Iranianate: Manuscript Studies and the Silk Roads Context

With a focus on the timeframe from late antiquity to the early Islam period, the presentation will review the last ten years of research conducted on the grafting of Syriac Christianity into the Iranianate sphere and the broader context of the Silk Roads. The motives for adopting Manuscript Studies as the preferred, albeit not exclusive, methodological approach will be discussed, and the results achieved will be illustrated. Above all, we will look at the challenges that still lie ahead.
