Guest Lecture: Delineations of Metaphor in Nicholas of Cusa

CERES-Palais, Raum "Ruhrpott" (4.13)

Guest lecture by David Albertson

Nicholas of Cusa is a master of inventing various metaphors for the divine, but it is important to read his works in context. His ideas unfold within the dynamic development of his thought from the 1440s to 1460s. David Albertson outlines several dimensions of this development, argues that the paradigmatic Cusan metaphor is in fact the geometrical line, and explains what this means for reading Cusanus today.

David Albertson is Associate Professor of Religion at the University of Southern California, in Los Angeles, and the past president of the American Cusanus Society.
