DESCRIPTION:Guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Thomas M. Schmidt (Goethe-Universit
ät Frankfurt)\n\nIn his Theory of Communicative Action (1981) Jürgen Hab
ermas had interpreted the history of social and philosophical modernizatio
n as “linguistification of the sacred”. In his most recent major work
Auch eine Geschichte der Philosophie (2019)\, he places a clearly differen
t emphasis on the role of the phenomenon of the sacred for the development
of modern societies. The so-called "sacred complex" is now seen as an ant
hropological deep-seated mechanism\, which in the event of crises of commu
nicative socialization can assume a kind of “deficiency guarantee” in
 terms of ritual performances.
