DESCRIPTION:CERES-Palais\, Raum "Ruhrpott" (4.13)\n\nPreservation and evol
ution of the Yasna ceremony  through the lens of Gujarati ritual directio
ns (16th-19th c.)\n\nGuest Lecture by Céline Redard\, Lecturer (Maître
de conférences) for the Institute of History of Religions at the Universi
ty of Strasbourg.\n\nThe ritual actions accompanying the recitation durin
g the performance of the long liturgy have been transmitted in the written
tradition and have also been preserved in the living performance. In the
Indian tradition\, ritual directions in Gujarati language are found in lit
urgical manuscripts dating back to the 16th century\, have continued into
the early printed editions of the 19th century\, and are part of the prese
nt priestly training manual.\n\nBy comparing the ritual directions of sele
cted passages in the oldest Indian Yasna Sade manuscripts (mss. 100_B3\, 1
10_K11\, 234_G26b ) with printed editions and the current practice\, this
talk discusses the transmission history of the ritual directions in the In
dian liturgical tradition. Moreover\, a comparison with the Iranian practi
ce will highlight some differences between the two ritual traditions.
