DESCRIPTION:The project DiGA aims at developing a concept for the digitiza
tion of a corpus of Buddhist sculptures from Gandhāra (present-day Pakist
an/Afghanistan) preserved in museums in Pakistan. Situated at the cross-ro
ads of Art History\, Religious Studies and Digital Humanities\, the projec
t sets itself two main objectives. Firstly\, it seeks to prepare a reposit
ory of Gandharan Buddhist artefacts and secondly\, it aims at meeting desi
derata in the study of both Gandharan art and Gandharan Buddhism. In this
respect\, the project will evaluate software and metadata standards in ord
er to develop a technical platform that will enhance the analysis of Buddh
ist images\, particularly of their formal and iconographic features\, and
facilitate their comparison with corpora of Buddhist texts.\n\nThis kick-o
ff workshop will provide an opportunity for art historians\, philologists\
, and specialists in Digital Humanities to discuss issues connected to the
  digitization of cultural heritage.\n
