DESCRIPTION:The works of Nicholas of Cusa (1401 – 1464) distinguish them
selves by an extensive range of metaphors spanning from things and circums
tances of everyday life and aspects of the natural world to cosmological p
henomena and more abstract geometrical and mathematical images. Many of th
ese metaphors challenge the reader due to their often unusual and daring c
ombination of elements which appear to be semantically incongruous or remo
te from each other.\n\nIn the workshop\, we want to take up this challenge
and further explore both the scope and the particularities of Nicholas’
figurative language. In this attempt\, the presented case studies will al
so serve as test cases to investigate conceptual issues of metaphor analys
is\, such as the relations of source and target domains and the mapping pr
 ocess.\n\nYou can register here: https://eveeno.com/sfb1475-cusanus-worksh
