Public Talk: Protestantism after Enligthenment. The Rise of a Secular Society

Public talk given by Prof emeritus Lucian Hölscher on Protestantism after the age of Enlightenment. The talk is part of the project "Der geteilte Himmel. Reformation und religiöse Vielfalt an Rhein und Ruhr". The talk will be given in German.

A secularised society was not existent in the early 16th century, which turned out to be the age of Reformation both in Central Europe and on the British islands. However, Secularism is often seen as offspring of the Protestant Revolution. The talk focusses on how the Protestant Churches of Germany found their positions between traidition and uprising modernity within the 19th century.

Venue: Ruhr Museum, Kokskohlenbunker [A 16] (Gelsenkirchener Str. 181, 45309 Essen)
